Our Roots
Though only incorporated in 2021, the roots of Out On A Limb go deep and wide and long.
Deep - Our team has years of experience teaching teambuilding and leadership, using experiential (not experimental) and adventure education methods going back to the mid 80’s.
Wide - The team of facilitators has specialized in and served diverse populations from Corporate Leadership Training, School Groups, to Church Boards and Sports Teams. Our staff have many special degrees and specialized training in Corporate Training and Development, Education, Science and Psychology.
Long - The collective staff brings out the best of a long history of leadership in many reputable camps and adventure centers such as Project USE, Leadership Connection, Shared Vision, Nyoda Hills, Shiloh Camp, and Solid Rock over the years.
After several outdoor programs took a break or completely shut down as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, founders Sabine Schubert, Anna Rolando, and Peggy Daly saw the desperate need and demand for programs that encourage social interaction, group problem solving, and learning again to communicate with one another in a live (non-virtual) way.
They went “out on a limb” to build a new educational teambuilding and leadership development company and sought out skilled teachers and facilitators who love what they do. We have experienced immediate requests for programs that are fun and teach those all-so-important social interaction skills that have weakened during the Covid pandemic.
Learning Philosophy
All people can learn to be more effective as leaders and team members
Any positive change begins with awareness and acceptance
Behavior change occurs best with active practice in a supportive environment
Effective learning occurs when it is engaging, challenging, and fun
What We Are About
-
The first thing we want to establish is your group’s learning goals. What is it you want to focus on? Examples include:
Effective communication, building trust, improved listening skills, problem solving, “get-to-know-you”, leadership skills, strengthening kindness behaviors, fun and “lighten-up” moments, team based decision making, negotiation skills, conflict resolution, respect, responsibility, and more.
Choosing the site: There are many options for location. We can host you at a camp in northern NJ, on your school property, at a local park, in your Church basement, or at resort properties around the world.
Next, we begin designing your program: the learning modules, outdoor challenge activities, team problem solving tasks and discussion points. Activities are carefully chosen so that all can participate and contribute to the team success.
Outcomes: we provide tools for your group’s personal growth, confidence, poise, loyalty, and acceptance.
Lastly, we pride ourselves on our own team and the passion and experience that our skilled facilitators bring to your program.
-
Through carefully designed indoor and outdoor experiential activities, we facilitate a creative, supportive, and provocative learning environment. Skilfully facilitated discussions after activities link the learnings and behaviors back to the workplace, school, church, or team.
-
We can change the culture of the world, one team and one program at a time, through caring teachers that help participants learn how to become better at doing community.
